Jeff Price’s ‘Pre-Holiday-Sale’ Sale on Saturday

Jeff is a glass blower who occasionally opens his studio
and gives glass blowing demonstrations. If you've gone
to The Renaissance Pleasure Faire over the past 10 years,
you may have seen him giving demonstrations on how glass
was worked hundreds of years ago. In his studio, of
course, he uses a variety of fancy techniques. He also
sells lots of glass bowls, vases, abstract pieces, and
levitating marbles at a discount, AND serves snacks!
Levitating marbles are great optical illusions: a glass
sphere is placed within a spiral copper wire hanging on
a string; when it is spun, the spiral fools your brain
into thinking that the sphere is going either up or down.
His studio is at

1208 E. Walnut St., Unit D, Santa Ana.

Here is his website (http://www.jeffpriceartglass.com/).

Golem update… 1015

Just a heads up…. 1, the place is hard to find… 2, golem won’t be on until 1015…. The lineup is as follows: 9pm, mr uncertain. 915 quazar and the bamboozled, 1015pm GOLEM…

Golem Tonight!

Now they are on the Echo website: http://www.attheecho.com/?m=20071115&cat=2The show is at 8:30 pm and is only $10 at the door (only $14 online). Golem’s klezmer music is very entertaining (kind of like “The Punk Polka” performed in Yiddish), and watching this performance will make our Eastern European ancestors proud of us. Even if you don’t understand Yiddish or Ladino or Polish or …, Golem often gives a synopsis in English, and occasionally even some language lessons.

Dada at The Cabana Club, Nov. 9

Dada is a fantastic band that had a few moments of widespread popularity in the mid ‘90’s with radio coverage of songs like “Dizz Knee Land“. Now, they have enough of a loyal fan base to fill places like House Of Blues, The Roxy, and The Troubadour. Mike (guitar) and Joie (bass) are great singers (both do lead vocals) and amazing musicians, but the best thing about the band is the catchy melodies these guys have devised. Phil, the drummer, is also very good, and although he doesn‘t sing, he apparently narrates a series on The Weather Channel called “Epic Conditions“! Buying all of Dada’s albums (starting with “Puzzle” and “American Highway Flower“) is heartily recommended, but one can also listen to 30 sec samples of every song at http://www.dadatheband.com/audio/. Lolas…. Mmmm pumkin martini…

Update:  The pumpkin martinis were great — Not too sweet and a perfect mix of spices.  For those that care, girl:guy was about 3:1.

Lolas…. One of the better mac and cheese joints and they have been advertising their pumpkin martinis…. We shall see.. Either way, always a nice hangout.

Mutaytor, BT4 and Oingo Boingo…

November 16th has two events of some interest…. Mutaytor (at Safari Sam’s) and BT4 (at Genghis Cohen).

What do these two events have in common?  Well, if you were smart, you saw Oingo Boingo (- Danny Elfman) at HOB the weekend before Halloween.  Presented as “Johnny Vatos and Friends“.  Awesome instrumentals (of course) with vocals performed by BT4…. The show had many original band members including John Avila and Steve Bartek.

Now… I am going to be at the BT4 show on the 16th, the fact that Steve Bartek will be playing with BT4 pretty much made that an easy decision, even though Mutaytor puts on a great show.

BUT, then, it turns out that John Avila might have performed with BT4 as well (that would have ROCKED!), but, he will NOT be performing with BT4 because he has a competing gig… With Mutaytor.  Gargh!
